Gabriel Pierne became well known as a conductor in Paris in the early 20
century; however, his compositional output became overshadowed by that
of his contemporaries, including Saint-Saens. This early "Concerto in
c-moll" is a hidden treasure, featuring virtuosic piano writing,
powerful themes, and orchestral accompaniment that allows the brilliance
of the soloist to shine through.
