Constructing a rock or pop solo could be compared to baking a cake. The
solo consists of several elements or ingredients which combine to make
the final product. The improvised solo may consist of such elements as:
scales, sequences, arpeggios, double stops and licks. The material in
this book will help you to master one of those elements, which is licks.
Licks are a series of notes which have a catchy sound. They may be
repeated over and over in the solo. They are so commonly used that they
may be call rock clichés.
When the licks (or rock clichés) in
this book are combined with scales and other elements of a solo, they
